“If you are brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.”

After a two-year hiatus from blogging, I am finally back. It seems that within the past week I have had to saw a countless number of goodbyes to things that were no longer serving me–in order to begin with an entirely fresh start where I began, in Los Angeles. Things were finally–decisively–done with the boy who had been my romantic preoccupation for years, I left my job as a stylist at BCBG MAX AZRIA , and I packed up all of the items I had collected through my three years in San Diego after graduating from University.

The lessons I learned were many (which I will delve in to later)– the power of vulnerability, the importance of self-reliance, and the realization that the circumstances around me may change but I always need to stay true to my vision at the end of the day.

My resolutions for the rest of 2014 are:

1. Stay vulnerable in love

2. In clothing, err on the side of chic not trendy

3. No matter what, follow through on your dream to move to Paris

More details to follow,

I don’t know about you, but nothing screams ‘chic’ to me more appealing to me than a strong brow. I still look back in horror at the pictures of myself in Junior High because I over-plucked them so much! Now, I seem to have swung to the exact opposite extreme and look to Megan Fox, Hilary Rhoda, and Brooke Shields for guidance (or their makeup artists ;) )

Yesterday, while I was waiting for traffic to die down so that I could embark to Los Angeles I did a bit of experimenting and I think I might stick with the results of shading in my eyebrows a bit fuller. Do you find yourselves endlessly battling with the tweezers or voraciously filling in your brows? Do tell…

I hope everyone had an excellent Valentine’s Day… any stories?  I ended up staying home with the girls and watching 500 Days of Summer while eating our collection of Valentine Candy. Couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s Day :)

I am sort of split down the line on this Jason Wu dress. When the look-book photos first came out I thought that I had to have it, but I showed my boyfriend and he thought it was a bit too ‘out there’. I’m no stranger to man-repellers (hello tutu’s, ballet flats, and blazers), but it seems as though this might cross the line and best be left in the 60’s mod era… What do you think–yea or nay?

“She had loved him better than he knew. Light-hearted deceiver and fickle like all his sex he would never understand what he had meant to her and for an instant there was in the blue eyes a quick stinging of tears.”

-Ulysses, James Joyce

 ♣  ♣  ♣

I’m not going to do an outfit of the day today because I was too busy taking a midterm on James Joyce’s “Ulysses” which went surprisingly well. While the text certainly has some beautiful language and descriptions, I feel like much of it is unnecessarily convoluted with references that are impossible to fully understand (unless you are a Dubliner living in 1904!) One thing I definitely can relate is the representation of unrequited love in the novel– while I have a boyfriend now, for the first 18 years of my life I was always the ugly best friend. I always remember that time as a blessing in disguise because now I understand the importance of handling the feelings of other people with tact. Asking someone out definitely takes a lot of courage!

Wore a tutu and red nailpolish in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, and bought myself a cupcake to enjoy while I’m studying French later. On library walk (the center of campus at UCSD) they were handing out free heart-shaped balloons and I was so excited to receive one but then the string came loose and it flew up into the Eucalyptus trees… What are your plans for Valentine’s day? Are you going to spend it on a romantic date night with your significant others or ladies night in with cupcakes and champagne (like me)?

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in what seems like forever– it’s been midterms week at my school and I’ve been too busy studying for classes. This weekend I got to take a short break to celebrate Valentine’s day with my boyfriend (we can’t celebrate on Tuesday because we go to different schools…)

We then went out to dinner at this dive burger place in Ocean Beach called Hodad’s (their chocolate malts are KILLER)… while my taste usually exceeds my budget for most things– food is one area where I can appreciate a simple burger and fries as much as an expensive Italian Dinner ( maybe even more ;) ) What do you ladies have planned for Valentine’s day?

XOXO Kathryn

p.s. how adorable are the Valentine’s cups from Starbucks? I’ve gone through quite a few trying to get through midterms…

He got me a beautiful silver hearts bracelet with our initials engraved into one side of the large heart (K&M) and ‘3 years xoxo’ carved onto the other side. I couldn’t have been happier! And he got the silver box it came in engraved with my name… I guess after 3 years he knows how much I love anything monogrammed…
